I'm 17 and just got married recently to the father of my child. Neither of my parents ever had much money so at 16 I had to move in with my then-fiance'. The only thing I wanted for a year after was to marry him so 2 monthes after my 17th birthday my mom paid and signed for me and we had a pretty decent wedding for under $300 including food and transportation for me him and both our moms. I found out in may I was pregnant and August found out it's a boy. Were pretty happy about it. We don't have much money ourselves just starting (and I refuse to get on welfare or food stamps. Period. Its not fair for those who are homeless/very poor) but we were looking for more frugal ways to help cut costs when the baby comes. I already use w.i.c. to supplement our food, and craigslist and freecycle.org to serch for free/low cost baby items that people rather not throw out. I was just wondering if anyone knows about other similar websites -or- organizations that could help us without taking tax payers money (belive me I feel bad about being on w.i.c so far and its only been a month). Also I live in orange county California if that helps.

There are thrift type stores that sell specifically children's clothes/items.
The one I really like is Once Upon a Child.
They take gently used clothes, toys and furniture.
I have taken clothes up there and bought clothes. They are so picky on what they take - so you can get great items for not a lot of money. I have bought brand new stuff up there for a fraction of the cost it would be in the stores.

You could also try eBay and bid on clothes that people sell in "lots" you can see pictures and get various sizes in bulk. Baby clothes are the easiest to find used in nice condition, because babies barely get any use out of them. You can also try looking into a local moms group and post an add for needed baby supplies.
There's also Angieslist, and overstock.com for good deals. Definitely check out a local thrift store/ salvation army.
Good luck!

Lots of churches have clothes closests that just give away clean used clothes and baby items they just as you return them when your done. But listen there is no shame using dshs that's what there there for so take advantaage of things you can use for the baby no matter who you get them from.. Its hard to do I know its such a prideful thing to decide to go to welfaare but you have a baby you need to think about let them help you till you guys get on your feet...
Good luckkkk

For food, check out
angelfoodnetwork.com (http://www.angelfoodnetwork.com)
I use it myself, you get a lot of food very inexpensive.
Also food stamps and other assistance is not taking any money from the homeless, you are merely cheating yourself out of all the thousands of dollars you will be paying in taxes over the years.
To be honest the largest majority of homeless are homeless because they want to be, they prefer drugs and drinking over family and a place to stay, Most will not stay in shelters unless it is very bad since they have to bathe and not drink. *** I did street ministry for years.
You need to stop making silly excuses and get the legal help you can get. Heck I have had to get food stamps a few times in my life, it is there for people who need it,
