Hi, Lexi!

Do you ever tell your mom or dad that you love them?

Thanks!

Lexi that is so cute! Just tell him how you feel and everything should work out fine. Don't be afraid to tell people how you feel as long as it's in a well-mannered way. If he doesn't exactly feel the same then don't stress about it. You're only in middle school and you have many things to learn still, but just don't be afraid to be yourself and let him know how you feel. Keeping feeling bottled up is a bad idea because it will only cause you pain and problems in the end. Just be yourself and pick a time and place and give it your best shot. But don't worry Lexi, I'm sure he feels the same. ;) I wish you the best!

My question was whether you ever told your mom or dad that you loved them? I wanted to see if you've ever told anyone that you loved them. Knowing that would have helped me to help you to say it to Ethan. It's okay to love your friends and to tell them that you love them

At your age, you're going to be going through many changes and experiences before you really meet up with someone who will be the one for you someday. Sometimes, childhood romances do develop into long term relationships, though. At this point in your life however, it's best to be really concentrating on you and who you are in order to make yourself the best person that you can be.

It's not really complicated to tell someone that you love them, you simply do! The more that you do it, the more comfortable you feel with saying it. With certain people, I always tell them that I love them at the end of a phone or in-person conversation. When doing it in person, I also look them in the eyes.

It's best to take the chances to say something like that while you have the chances to say it!

Yes, I'm saying just say it. If he doesn't say it back, then he might have to think about things some. That's okay. Give him time... Like you, he is growing and learning how to do things and would like to feel comfortable in doing them. Just say it and see what happens. But, I wouldn't make such a big deal about saying it to him when you do.

You could say it in a way that's not making things so serious, like "I really love you, Ethan! Thanks for being my friend!"

He would probably feel comfortable with that.

Relationships can take many years to develop. Best not to rush into things. You've got plenty of time ahead of you...

Lexi, you need to be honest, and you need to be able to tell people things without needing them to agree with you, nor say the same thing right back to you. What's the good of that, really?

So, you DO need to be able to talk to your parents about things like this. In fact, once they get over the shock of you bringing it up, they may have some very helpful insights.

"Mom, I'm starting to like this boy at school and I'm not sure what to say to him. How did you handle things like this when you were young?"

And as for the boy, being able to express interest in boys without fear of being rejected is a skill you must develop. It just makes you strong, strong, confident. And only being willing to say things like "I like you" to someone you KNOW will say it back... that's no fun. You'll spend months and months "wondering" and trying to figure it out, when you don't need to. Just let him know without being overly aggressive.

"Johnny, I hope you know how much I like you. You're very sweet and I hope we can do more things together soon."

See, non-aggressive delivery of the info. You can do it. It won't matter what he says next, he'll be flattered, so it should be good either way.

And yes, in life there will be times you express interest in boys who won't be interested back. So what? Put yourself out there anyway. You might as well, otherwise you would waste SO MUCH more time privately fretting over someone who isn't going to like you, this way you find out faster, waste less time, and move on to the next chapter quickly.

Lastly, don't let fear stifle you. Everything is scarey the first time, once you get USED to talking to your parents and boys, it gets easier the next time.

Truly.

First of all, HAPPY UPCOMING BIRTHDAY! =]

Next, it sounds like at the very least you care about him a lot. So my advice, do it in private, do it when you're both comfortable, and make sure you get rid of any possible issues that may have come up lately. And if he doesn't say it back, don't worry about it! Maybe he just needs time to think about it. So go for it when you feel right, and don't make a whole complicated plan. Go with the flow! And remember, even if it's not love YET, you guys still care about each other and that's one of the most important things. =]
