Chicken soup has been used as a remedy for upset stomach for years. I assume because its 'comort food'.

Chicken and rice remedy in a dog food?

If that's what you mean then it's a good idea. Especially if the dog has allergies or a sensitive tummy...

I would not advise you to use HUMAN CHICKEN SOUP as it can upset the stomach and give diarreah.

(Please excuse any spelling errors, the spell check on this site is not working... thanks!).

Tickle, you're funny! LMAO! Wasn't the original question posted in Pets&Animals, specifically DOGS... lololololol... All responses are then assumed to be in relation to the question about animals. I assumed the OP would then be directing their response in helping the poster in answering the question about her/his DOG... as it's a DOG thread...

This IS the doggy section? No?

WOOF!

I apologize if I'm in the wrong section...

My opinions are based on the question put forth... sometimes when someone, (even if it IS an OP.. ) responds and their answer is "open/ended" this can sometimes mislead, potentially... so I just thought that I'd mention that chicken soup can cause diarreah for dogs, IN THE CASE that the poster thought to try some human soup.

No offence intended, originally Tickle. I'm sure you're an awesome OP...

Hi SweetDee, absolutely no offence taken, as a matter of fact, I just went back and read that it was a dog thread. Its misleading when it isn't in the subject line. GothGirl did the same thing !

Susan, for your dog right ! Boiled chicken (broken up in very small pieces and mixed) and rice is a bland diet and good for a canine upset stomach. Although, they usually eat grass for medicinal purposes to sooth their stomachs.

Oh, for a dog! Ok, well
Fish is helpful as well, make into very small pieces
White rice
Cut up chicken
Just when you feed him make sure they are bland foods.

When my dog has an upset stomach I give her an antacid tablet. She loves them and comes to me when she has an upset stomach. I've given these to my dogs over the years. I would rather give something like one antacid tablet then bother with anything else - even grass - because the dog is just going to throw up the grass to get rid of the stomach contents that is bothering them.

JKT, thanks for the balancer to even out the disagree I gave SweetDee on the 'dog post'. I Realized what I had done. I really must start reading the titles. I missed it because there was no mention of 'dog' in the subject line.

Tickle, it's all good... no worries... xo

Well I can tell you that when any of my dogs are "in" the midst of diarreah... there is NO FOOD given for the full day.

The next morning I feed them a quarter of their usual portion, DRY (usually I soak the holistic dog dry dog food). In the evening I feed them another quarter portion dry.

The 3rd day rolls around and they get a double portion of their usual morning meal... so it's basically a FULL DAYS worth of food for breakfast, (because they're very hungry by then but mainly because their tummy's are settled by then. If they are still having trouble they have ALL DAY to go thru' the diarreah... and we'll not have to deal w/ it during our sleep at night... however it's usually over w/ by that 3rd day).

My experience w/ a sensitive tummy is VAST... I have a German Shepherd, need I say more?

I have a good friend who feeds her dog, (who has such tummy issues that he can't eat dog food AT ALL), either chicken or fish, with rice plus a multi vitamine. She adds all kinds of other things like: Ester C (which is a vitamine C. You need to start w/ that powder in very tiny portions going up till the stool JUST begins to get too soft and then cut back. This is how it's determined how much your dog needs. DO NOT DO THIS TILL YOU'VE SOLVED YOUR DOGS TUMMY ISSUES FIRST!), vitamine E, Kelp... these are some of the things I know she adds to the food.

Good books I recommend:

-Give Your Dog a Bone by Ian Billinghurst.
-Dr. Pitcairn's Complete Guide to Natural Health for Dogs and Cats.
-Holistic Guid for a Healthy Dog by Wendy Volhard and Kerry Brown
-It's for the Animals Cookbook by Helen McKinnon
