I'm trying to make hanging ceiling lamps from old minnow buckets. Can anyone tell me what kind of light fixture I need to get to convert this bucket into a hanging light?

Hi, kylesgram!

I know that making table lamps out of old minnow buckets is something that's fairly popular. How are you envisioning these minnow buckets being hanging lamps though, please? For instance, do you want the light bulb or bulbs to be inside or outside the buckets?

Thanks!

The minnow bucket that I have has holes on the sides so maybe I'm not using the correct wording when I say "minnow" bucket. Maybe it's more like a bait bucket that you put in the water and the water can freely flow throughout the bucket. At any rate I removed the lid and want to turn it upside down and install a light fixture inside the bucket much like a swag lamp but without the chain. I prefer to use a heavier cord so the lines are clean and smooth but I'm at a loss as to how to put together a light kit for hanging this bucket. Any suggestions? Thanks so much.

Hi, kylesgram!

From my understanding here as to what you are wanting, it would appear that you would need to be cutting a hole in the bottom of the bucket in order to accommodate those things that would enable you to make it into a lamp.

I would think that if you cut a hole the correct size in order to attach the socket for a bulb and subsequently cord like might be for a chandelier, that should do the trick. All of those parts should be available at a hardware store or place that sells parts for lighting fixtures.
