I have a Kenmore Elite Dishwasher. The cycle buttons are not working. Any way to fix this without repairman?

Tried the Sani Rinse and Air Dry button sequence suggested by another user (press them alternately a few times). All buttons lit up. I pressed cancel. All lights went out. Then later, the China Gentle light came on and "79" was in the timer indicator. A few minutes after that, all lights/indicators went out. Does anyone have any idea what this means?
