One pastor I met used to be a youth leader who took his kids to Christian rock concerts and such. He now believes that rock music is evil because the drum beats of modern rock, and the drum beats of African witches supposedly match, therefore making Christian rock music (rap music, metal, etc.) evil. I know better considering I have played the drums for several years now, and know that they don't carry any evil spirits or anything, they're just an instrument. This guy tried to get me and my twin sister (who plays the electric guitar) to go all anti-rock and anti-rap. Besides the drums, why else would Christians consider rock music a tool of satan?

Man you play it backwards and the devil speaks to you.
It makes you want to dance and we all know that leads to drugs and sex
The words they are not chanting or repeatitive so they have to be evil.
Anything that is done in glory of the Lord, blessing his name is great, I may not want to listen to it personally but don't allow a back sliden pastor to ruin your joy in the Lord.

Since people are going to listen to rock music, it's a tradeoff to listen to christian rock. And telling a young person to abstain from rock is almost futile. This pastor needs to focus on himself. If he were very wise, he would use the occasion of rock music and young people to spread the love of god, and be a righteous guide and influence.

Very simple... it's the LYRICS, not the beat. Would God be disappointed if someone's christian rock song brought them closer to Him? I think not.

Actually I watched a program that showed Christian kids at a Christian ROCK concernt dancing and slamin or whatever they do. And then they showed a regular secular rock concert and they were doing the same thing. The point they were making was that the lyrics had nothing to do with it. They didn't like how wild and weird the music made the kids.. it seemed unholy.
ME? I wouldn't care if my kid wanted to go to a Christian rock concert... I'd let him.. it is the secular ones I would be more hesitant about.

Hello jaime:
Rock and Roll is fun. Christians don't like anything that's fun.

Ask your pastor about the time King David danced in his underweard in front of his people. (true story)

Yep and his wife got ticked and despised him for it so the Lord didn't let her have any babies. He surely did dance around in his undies or loin cloth.. whatever you prefer.

What's wrong with a little craziness and jumping and down for God? Who said christianity or your personal relationship with Christ had to be kept hush hush and introverted. The more excited people see you about God, the more they're likely to listen... when my daughter is old enough to go to a concert and she wants to go listen to Jeremy Camp or some other christian rock artist, I would be ECSTATIC to take her. What better way to fellowship than to be worshipping with other christians who like the same music as you?

Precisely ashley! It's music with a positive message, I don't see how that can be considered a sin

'' What you don't have , you don't need it now.
What you don't know , you can feel it somehow'' U2 Beautiful day
''Yahweh , Yahweh, always pain , before a child is born.
Yahweh , Yahweh , why the dark before the dawn?'' U2 Yahweh
I could go on for days...
Rock music like all music is like a knife. You can cut food with it , but you can also cut people with it , it's how you use it !

I personally think that christian rock is terrifying as do I about religious channles and anything overly religious.. I'm a catholic(shcok horror) have been all my life I go to church every Sunday I drink I smoke , long story short its not what other people tell you especially patsors or priests most of them are good a\nd do gods work but it is very easy to twist the words of jesus christ and the bible to suit your beliefs, play the drums enjoy metal and rap have fun.. juts remember the commandments and live a good life.. if you are happy then god is happy religeopn isn't about not being allowed to do things it is about living a good life and praising the lord :)

Excon,
Christians aren't anti-fun, unless your idea of fun is drugs and drinking, which is a pretty narrow-minded idea of "fun."

To some Christians, they don't have any piano or anything in church, others will only allow music from their 1920s something hymnal and others will only allow a song that has been approved by their church leadership before being played.
Heck I got in trouble in my church as a youth for playing Amazing Grace on the organ.
Yep Amazing Grace, turns out it is not in the Lutheran hymnal at that time anyway.
So you can find a pastor somewhere they will not like anything, time to learn to please God and not worry about man.

For Christ's sake, didn't David and all of Israel praise God with drums and cymbals when the ark of the covenent was brought in?

Yeah that is crazy thinking that drums and guitars are evil. Think about all the Christian bands out there, they use most of these instruments in praising God!

I just see all the verses that say, "they played and praised God with LOUD SHOUTS, and the sound could be heard across the land from far off" c'mon, the closest thing you can get to that, is a rock concert.

"Make a joyful noise unto the Lord". If your heart is in Christian music you go for it. Pray for your pastor that he will give you encouragement. Keep your eyes on your goal and ask God to guide you and you can't go wrong. There may be some glitches but you will overcome and the Lord will Bless You... Blessings
