I went to the beach to feed the geese that we have there. I noticed in the water tons of dead fish floating on top of the water, what is the cause for that?

Could be anything? Which beach? Lake? Ocean? Where are you?

And where is that?

Well, could be disease, could be poison, could be anything. You'll need a water sample and a biologist, then you'll get your answer.

Good luck.

This could be the result of lack of oxygen in the water or some kind of algae causing the fish to go belly up.

Could this be answered in the Ecloogy Section?

Not likely Red, unless they know the exact location and have water samples, they could only guess what caused this.

If you really want to know check your local paper, perhaps they've written a story about this. Or watch the news. If there are lots of dead fish then I'm sure someone is researching the cause and it will probably be made public soon.

No one on this site could give you an accurate reason, just guesses which we've already done.

Good luck.

No one is going to be able to help answer this until you give us more information, such as your location.

The oxygen content of the water is low, typically.

We had one written up and it's because the canal is a dead end with lots of pockets for decayed matter to deposit in and algea. What apparently happens is the fish move up the canal and can't retreat fast enough and to compound the problem occasional pockets of methane get released from the decaying matter. Lost a lot of fish - 100's of thousands.

There was somebody who came and got water samples. It was in our newspaper, saying it was due to low oxygen.
