Hello,

I need help with my Harbor Breeze fan. The fan light is working but the fan itself is not working. I wanted to use the remote which has only black and white wires on the side that goes to the wall and I do not know where those wires go because I have an extra red that doesn't go anywhere then. I'd settle to have the fan work without it though.

There is a white, black, red, and bare wire coming from the ceiling. The white is to the white the black to the black the red to the blue and the bare to the green. I have the light working but not the fan.

Also, the fan in the bedroom was working fine but now it does not work either and the light works there but not the fan. I do not know if it has anything to do with me working on the fan downstairs or not but it is really weird because that fan was working fine and now it does not work either.

Thank you for all your help!

By the way, the fan is a Harbor Breeze fan and the fan in the bedroom is a Hunter fan.

Do either of these fans have pullchains?

Also, were they working at one time, or have they never worked correctly?

I was able to figure out what was wrong with the one downstairs. It seems that it was a broken pull chain box, which caused the black wire to come loose and therefore the fan did not work.

The other fan in the bedroom still does not work and it was working fine before (Sept. 12th).

I found that the black wires (hot wires) were no longer hot and I couldn't figure out how that would happen. I tried to turn the circuit off and then back on but that did not help.

The light in the bedroom works, just like the one downstairs, but it seems that this one has a problem of the black wires not being hot.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

You talking about the ceiling black wires? Do you have a voltmeter?

I have a tester, which I put up to the black wires, one from the ceilng and one from the remote for the fan.

The black wires were not hot, they did not beep or have a charge.

I don't know why this would happen as no one was touching the wires before and now the fan does not work but the light has been working.

Thanks!

Ok, you put the tester between the black and white wires from the ceiling.

I put the tester on the two black wires and did not receive a beep or light on the tester.

The switch was on and it did not receive a charge. I'm not sure where to go from here.

The fan was working fine and now it won't work at all. The wires were set up correctly since it worked before but for some reason the fan has decided not to work.

I don't want to have to take the hunter fan back to Lowe's but if I have to I will. But I think the problem is the wiring and not the fan itself.

Thanks for all your help!

Do not test "on the two black wires " test between the black and the white.

Thank you I will do that. I was testing the black wires individually though. Would that matter?

Also, this still leaves the question as to why the fan won't work when all the wiring it set up correctly and it worked before. I'm thinking about trying to take it back and have them look at it but the light works fine.

Check between the black wire from the ceiling and the white wire from the ceiling. If there is no power here with the switch on, then the problem is with the wiring or the switch.

Another thing to try, wire the fan up to an extension cord and plug it in and see if it works.

It should work if we can cinfirm that a hot (black wire) actually cares the power to the fan motor. Power back at the switch may have come apart or the switch had gone bad if you have two switches. Tell us what your meter says between the black and white.

Hi,

I put the black wires and the white wires from the wall and the receiver together and they are both hot. However, the problem is that neither the black or the white wires are hot when they are put with their colors.

I don't know why this would be but it was working fine before when the wires were put together and the light works so I am beginning to think that maybe the fan motor doesn't work anymore.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

When you test between black and white from the ceiling you get 120vAC, yes?
