Ok, I've been a Wiccan for nearly 8 years and a Priest of the Celtic Tradition for the past three years and for some odd reason I've come across people who seem to believe that you can mix two completely different religions into one. Most often its Christianity and Wicca, and they call themselves Christian Witches. Coming from a Christian background and converting to Wicca myself, I think I can say that "religious syncretism" does not exist. The only religions that may be mixed are pagan religions (Such as a Wiccan practicing a few Voodoo spells- since Voodoo is a religion within itself).

The basic tenets of Christianity are the EXACT opposite of the basic tenets of Wicca so to mix them and call it OK. That's like me saying that Im a Buddhist Muslim. Not possible, and so it is the same for Wicca and Christianity. So all you "Christian Witches" need to stop and PICK ONE. Stop trying to have your cake and eat it too.

Tell me what you guys think :-)

As a Christian for 46 years, you're right. Christians... true Bible-believinig, followers of Jesus Christ would NEVER have anything to do with WICCA. You can't mix something like that. I would say that people who call themselves Christian Witches are really practitioners of WICCA who are trying to make it acceptable to Christians.

You can't be a little bit pregnant; you either are or you're not. One cannot be a Christian and a wiccan; you're either one or the other.

Christian Witches are straddling the fence and that only gets you a sore bottom. Sooner or later they're going to have to commit fully to WICCA or shun it totally and repent.

While I am not a Christian any longer I agree with you 100%. They are stuck in the middle and don't want to make a choice. You can only have one, not both. You cannot be a Satanist and a Taoist at the same time. If anyone out there claims to be a Christian Witch, its time to stop playing games and pick one freakin religion and stop trying to turn a one way street into a two lane highway (if that makes sense lol)

Makes perfect sense. Of course, I believe that they've already made the choice, they just can't admit it. In this case there is no grey area. Not wanting to use "black" and "white", but if you mix two colors, such as red or yellow... you don't have "red-yellow" or "yellow-red"... you have orange. It's no longer one or the other.

I don't know about you, but it's an insult to those who claim the "name" to have others weakly try to combine the two.

Thank you!! Finally some same people on this earth! I've been trying to explain this to a girl on YouTube, she claims to be Wiccan but supports the theory and practice of Christian Wicca. I believe her YouTube name is "blue fire witch" or something. Oh well. Like clhend said: "if you mix two colors, such as red or yellow you dont have yellow-red you have orange" Well put.

Why not believe in the Divine Being who is great enough and deep enough to hold all human conceptions of Her/Him/It/Them, with room left over? And why not let each person follow his or her heart, rather than saying what they "can't" do? Is it so hard for one heart to both love this Mother Earth and love Jesus, the Way, the Prince of Peace?

It is because people are out there creating new religions to have one exactly the way they want it.
For the same reasons basically christian groups split into first or second this or that, they make up their own religion taking the parts they want. Many want to include christian in it, since that makes them seem more socially acceptable.

Alder, I understand what you're saying, but the Christian religion teaches that you are NOT allowed to have any other gods before Jesus (meaning the only god you can worship is the Christian god). And in Wicca, we teach that you are not allowed to worship any deities that claim that they are the only deity (ie: Jesus, Allah, Satan). So, from both sides of the fence (Wicca and Christianity), the mixture of the two CANNOT happen.

But people can believe whatever they want and are entitled to call it whatever they want- no matter how little sense it makes to observers.

I could go to town on how hypocritical Christianity and Wicca are, but what does it matter? Live and let live!

I think most beliefs, and in fact most philosophical thought processes, require a large dose of double think.

No, if it makes no sense then that's just it, it makes no sense. Sure, we live in a free country so if you want to worship toilet paper or something that's on you, but, just because YOU believe it, does not make it right. You cannot mix two established religions into one and call it w/e you want. People who do are just confused and want the best of both worlds. Well guess what... YOU can't HAVE IT! End of story.
