My house was built in the 60's so I still have wires coming from the wall. I have 2 cables (?) that have 1 white wire and 1 red wire. Can someone tell me how to connect these wires to the jack?

I'm not sure how to connect the wire to the jack... but there is another way if you would like to try.

Get a RJ11 telephone cable from any shop.
Cut the cable in half and take off the plastic coating on the end to reveal the two wires.
Connect the wires to the phone cables and it should work if there is a pulse in the phone line.
Use electrical tape to cover the joints... and you're good to go.

Hook up a DC voltmeter and see which is positive, that goes to green on phone jack, negative goes to red on phone jack. Set meter for 50 or more volts dc. If some one calls in, it may ring at 90 volts AC.
