Can I use separate grounding electrodes for my main service box and my subpanel as they are a significant distance away from each other?

If they are in the same structure a sub-panel does NOT require an electrode. Only the service equipment does.

If the sub-panel is in a detached structure it DOES require an electrode (or two).
