My computer frequently hangs .the screen jamms and cpu stops responding.alt+ctrl+del doesnot work.also restart does not work most often.I have to press restart multiple times.even on restartin it gets hanged .

My config:-
Processor:- amd sempron (999Mhz)
Ram:- 1256 mb
Hard disk :-80 gb
Os:- windows xp sp2

I have formatted my PC 8 to 10 times but problem still persists.
I have installed avast antivirus, pctools firewall, pctool spyware doctor.
I regularly repair my registry using registry mechanic.
Is this virus problem or smethin else?

Hi
The problem may be that you are hard disk might have got scratched, may be due to suddenshut down
Check for bad sectors and ventilation also (due to athlon processor)

Check heat also. CPU is probably cooling down when you are trying to restart, thus causing it to fail a few times.

Check for

Dust/Hair
Stuck/noise Fans
Crooked CPU Fan
