I work for a large law firm, prior to this I was in the medical field and worked on the units. I very fimilar with Hippa in the hospital field but not when it comes to working at a business.

I have been very sick and have had to take time of work. I came to my attention a couple months ago that my manger was discussing my medical condition with other employees. That has become an issue again. Also she sent out an email to quite a few people that I was going to out and the details of why and what was wrong. She then proceeded to have a conversation with 2 people regarding my issues; who has absolutely no idea what was going on.

I know that is is some sort of violation. Does anyone have federal statute #'s pertaining to this?

This is not a HIPAA violation since this person is not your medical provider. It is, however, unethical for her to be discussing your medical condition with other members of the office.

At this point I suggest that you talk to her and HR asking that your medical condition be kept private. Also, discuss with your medical provider that he/she not disclose the reason for taking time off work, strictly that he/she has put you on a medical leave of absence.
