Good morning

I wonder if anyone can help. I am moving into my first flat on Monday and went to plumb in my washing machine on Sunday (Actually my dad did). There was a slight problem being that there was no stand pipe!

I contacted my estate agent and he went to look at it this morning. He said it was OK that there was no stand pipe as there was a T-Junction instead that we need to take the cap off to hook the waste water pipe from the washing machine in. Is this correct because I have no clue and don't want to move in only to flood my flat the first time I do a load of washing. My dad said that the estate agent was wrong but he is not a plumber. Can anyone help me?

Thank you.

Daddy was correct, a stand pipe's necessary to accept the discharge from the washer pump,(see image). How high up from the floor is the Tee? If the tee's located higher then the washer it may be possible to install a street ell, a short piece of pipe for a stand pipe and connect the washer hose to it using one of these connecters, (see images). This will make the connection a closed one and will not allow backups or overflows. Good luck.

Im not sure. I am going to forward this on to my dad (obviously more knowledgeable than I estimated) and see what he says because it all went over my head! Thank you very much though.
