Hi

My father was born in Portugal and later emigrated to South Africa. I am 44 yrs of age and now live with my family in the UK. We are currently living here on a 5 year ancestral visa, which was acquired through my wife.
I want to apply for portuguese citizenship.
How do I go about this? And are there any companies who can assist me for a fee?

Thank you

You are eligible to apply for the Portuguese citizenship as child of a Portuguese citizen.

I work at Miguel Reis & Associados (Miguel Reis (http://www.lawrei.com)) which is a Portuguese law firm and we are especialised in Portuguese citizenship cases.

In order to instruct you on how to apply, I need to make you some questions that would influence on your application.

Dear Hiteshkumar,

If you have not obtained the citizenship through naturalisation, but through other procedures, you can already apply for the Portuguese citizenship for your wife, since you are married for over 03 years.

If you have obtained the citizenship through naturalisation, then we would have to check the date you have granted the citizenship to give accurate answers.

The application of the spouses is very complicated and one of the applications that I always advise the people who ask me information to seek professional help instead of submitting their applications by themselves at the Consulate.

I say this because the Portuguese government tends to deny the applications of those spouses who do not live in Portugal and such situation can only be reverted in Court if the application has been submitted in a way that it is possible for the applicant to defend himself/herself. Therefore, the applicant has to take all cares to not provide evidences that may be used against them by the Portuguese government.

I am a lawyer and I work at the Portuguese Law Firm Miguel Reis & Associados, which has over 20 years of experience on Portuguese citizenship, and we can help you with your application.

As it is not allowed to give you my personal contact information here, I advise you to look for me at Facebook, I use the same User Name as here and send me a message there, so I can provide you further information on this matter.
