Was wanting to know if anyone knows anything about dysgerminoma? I have been told it is a rare ovarian cancer common in young women. Any other info would be VERY helpful... thanks.

I read the link you provided. But some of it I didn't understand. I am not fluent in medical terminology. (:D) I know that it is cancer and that you can have your ovaries removed and maybe get rid of it. But I guess what I am wanting to know is if you have to have radiation/Chemo or if the chances of it coming back after surgery are large, can this kill you, etc...

Congrats on the RN advancement!!

Okay, so I found out I have this dysgerminoma on my left ovary. I have had chest x-ray, CAT scan, and believe it or not a colonoscopy(FYI the prep before exam is FAR worse than the exam itself).

All other tests came back normal. Have irritation in lung lining(forgot word) and some palops in colon. But so no sign of cancer spreading. I am due in a couple weeks for a complete hyterectomy. When doc cuts me open he will know more. If cancer is only in ovaries the surgery should take care of it. If it has spread even a small amount I may have to have chemo and radiation therapy. No one knows about this except the dr's and my husband. And now everyone on here :D!

Will let you know something when I know something!!

OKAY! So I am trying and trying to find ANYTHING on the net that tells me about dysgerminoma and metastasis. Like where it could spread to in early stages and what your symptoms may be. Can anyone help??

Wow, that was a pretty hard search. However, I did find that metastasis rarely spreads into the abdominal cavity and that this form of cancer responds very well to radiation therapy after a bilateral oophorectomy. Stage I dysgerminoma is nearly 100% curable if caught in the early stages.

Not sure if you are being sarcastic or not. :p But when I tried no page would tell me anything about metastasis dealing with specifically dysgerminomas.

Anyway your information was extremely helpful. I found out also that I pretty much have to wait and find out if it has spread when my doc does the surgery. (which doesn't make me very happy)

But I have undergone a chest x-ray(everything ok), a CAT Scan (everything ok) and believe it or not at 27 yrs old a colonoscopy(the prep sucked but I don't remember the exam :D and everything was ok)

So if it HAS spread it is in the general female area or the bladder. (YIPPY) and I guess stage I through stage III have high survival rates. But stage IV is 0%! (At least I am confident that I am below stage IV!!

Anyway my surgery is due next week and I will know after I come to how bad or good it is. Thank you for all of your help.

Nope, wasn't being sarcastic. It was a hard search that I finally found on one of my medical pages.

Glad to hear your surgery is so quick. Please keep me posted as to what you find out. I'll keep you in my thoughts.

OKAY! Had surgery, they said it is only in ovaries!! YEAH!! So by removing all that crap they hopefully got it all. But I will ave to go back every year for screenings. I am VERY sore and it burns where my left ovary was, but I am looking forward to getting back to normal and back to work!!

Thank you for everything!!
