Is there a free software/open software product like MS WORD's Microsoft Outlook.

I've tried SUNBIRD it has some serious limitations. However, it is free.

For word/excel/etc get open office. Email... hmmm. Not sure.

Did you mean Thunderbird (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/thunderbird/)? That would be your first choice.
What limitations affect your decision?
