Hi I'm 16 and I've had an extremely long period! It's been lasting for about 3 weeks. It started the first week of August when I went to costa rica and has still been going on ever since (I'm home now)

The first week it was pretty normal (regular bleeding and everything)
Then it started getting weird! Like going for 5 days and then stopping for 2... but it was more a brownish discharge rather than bloody... I'm going to see a gyno soon but my mom says I should wait until my period ends..

Also I'm a virgin and I'm currently not taking any pills... I exercise pretty regularly and nothing really out of the ordinary (other than my period) has been going on lately.

Anybody have any ideas what could be happening?
Thanks for you help!

You need to tell your mother about what is happening and have her take you to the doctor should this situation continue. My sister many years ago had long periods that kept continuing when she was your age. My mother took her to the doctor and there was a cyst on her ovary that was causing the long period problems. I'm not saying that this is exactly what your problem is, but as you can see, it's something a doctor has to properly diagnose for you to be sure.

The brownish discharge is usually old blood still being shed, but definitely keep your visit with the gynecologist...

Long periods can also cause anemia which can make you tired and fatigued...

Good luck hun ;)

Thanks so much for the advice! My period actually stopped today (thankfully)... I'm still going to see the gynocologist next week though!
