Hey guys I put a post up the other day about charging my laptop. What I have decided to do is keep the laptop adapter connected all the time with the battery out. So I am running it off the mains and saving the battery life. However the underneath of my laptop gets very hot. Is that a problem? I have my laptop on all day.

As long as your fan is operating properly, it should not be a problem.

Most of them do get pretty warm if turned on for some time.

Its only a few days old though.

Getting warm is common.

I've had about 6 laptop's and all of them get warm on the bottom, some warmer than others.

If is it that new, I really wouldn't worry about it, especially while the warranty is still good.

Ok thanks for the help. It is OK to power the laptop by the mains isn't it? And not have the battery in?

Actually, not having the battery in may be what is causing you to notice more heat.

I believe that the battery also acts as an insulator between the heat source and the bottom of the laptop.

As long as you use the laptop on battery power once a month, and let it get down below 10% remaining then give it a full charge, your battery will last just as long as leaving it out.

Depending on what laptop you have, once the battery gets to 100%, the laptop will stop charging it and you will run off AC power.

As long as you run the battery through a complete cycle, from 100% down to about 10%, then plug the laptop back in and charge back to 100%, once every month or two, it will be just fine.

I have had my current laptop over a year, never took the battery out, and I still get almost 2 hours on a full charge with battery power only.

You do keep asking the same questions... hehe.

Run your laptop with the power cord/adapter 24/7 if you want. It will be fine.

OR, put the battery in and leave it in, and be sure to disconnect from the wall at least once a week or so and let the battery drain down to 10% or so as you work, then plug it back in for the next week.

Discharging the battery in this manner is what keeps it healthy.

The choices is YOURS. Use it plugged in or use it on the battery. But if you leave the battery in while it's plugged in ALL the time, discharge the battery on some consistent schedule.

Thanks JB sorry it's just it was so hot I was getting worried. But if I keep the battery in and leave it plugged in all the time. Draining it once every week. Does the battery actually act as an insulator and will the laptop not get as hot?

You tell us. Sounds like a simple enough experiment.
