In my husbands divorce decree it states, "Until the child reaches the age of eighteen, or graduates from high school, or reaches twenty years of age or other emancipation if earlier, whichever occurs first."
We understand this as the child support ends on whichever event happens first, which happens to be his 18th birthday. Are we understanding this correctly? In which case, his birthday happens to be 1/18 of his senior year of high school. Are we truly done with this obligation to his ex-wife or are we responsible until he graduates from high school?
If we are done by January, do we have to notify the MN Child Support Center or will they automatically know? My fear is that won't be the case and we will need to take the steps necessary to get the process halted before they keep taking excess out and we will never get it back.
