How do I change the anode in my water heater?

N Young, Not THE Neil Young is it?
The anode rod is located under the large hex nut located on top of the heater. Turn the water off to the heater and open a hot water faucet to relieve the pressure. Take a large wrench and unscrew and remove the old rod. Replace with the same type rod. An aluminum hex head will be flat on top, while a magnesium rod will have a bump, Teflon tape the threads on the nut when you screw it back. Turn the water back on and test for leaks.
Congratulations! You have just replaced your anode rod and saved a hefty repair bill. Cheers, tom
