I had a client come into my business for a grooming of 2 dogs. She was the kind of individual every groomer dreads, arrogant, indecisive, and cheap. She gave us elaborate instructions on what she wanted done with one dog and then on pick up we had to quickly regroom the dog because she said that isn't what she had wanted at all. The price for the grooms was high as the dogs required a lot of work. I was relieved when she left and figured I would never see her again.

I could swear I deposited her check, my bank says no. After a reasonable interval I called and spoke with the husband (she refused to speak with me). He said he would issue me a check minus stop payment fees for the "lost" check. I was fine with that and the conversation between myself and her husband was polite.

Needless to say a month later and no check has been mailed to me, so these people obviously feel they have gotten away with robbery (that's how I see it). Do I have any recourse? These are the kind of pompous, self appointed pillars of the community that need to be taken down a notch or two.

At the end of the day it's your word against theirs unfortunately... they say they paid you twice and you lost it... you say you never received it... stale mate.

If you think it's worth the aggro, you could probably make a claim against them ,in the small claims court, other than that it's a case of calling at their house ( with a mate ) and asking for the money direct... that's probably what I would do.

If they paid you, and you lost it, morally they should come in and pay you, Realistic, you just lost that check and you are out that money by not keeping better accounting of checks you ecieve
