Hi my name is rebecca and I am 18. My (36 year old) sister had a baby boy 5 months ago. There are many problems in her life including a woman beating partner drugs and alcohol my nephew is such an adorable little child he is so happy around other people and I very easily amused, he never screams or cries unless there is something really wrong or he is in the house when his father is beating up his mother. It is a wonder how he hasn't been taken into care already esspecailly when you see other children taking of their parents for much less. My entire family has tried and tried and god knows is still trying to get through to here but nothing is working. If you mention the subject of the baby going in to care because she won't grow up, she just threatens you with never seeing him again. So I want to go around it another way and try and get custody of my nephew I love him so much more than his mother ever could and he is a lot happier around me than he is her. My our my mum would also like to adopt him but she lives to close to my sister so it may not be aloud I however live a good 20 minutes drive from her and that is too much for her to be bothered is it possible for an 18 year old aunt to adopt her 5 month old nephew?

Do you mean to tell me that small child is around while his dad is BEATING UP HIS MOTHER, and on top of that, there are drugs and alcohol in the house. And you are asking what can you do ? My god woman, you have to report that situaiton to the authorities immediately and they have to get that child out of there before something happens to him to too.

Why has the family sat on this tremendous travesty of justice so long when a child is in danger!!

She has a lot more to worry about then threatening her family with never seeing her and her baby again.

I agree with Tickle, also! Call social services ASAP, like right now!

Chances are that you won't get custody, you are too young and you have no support system like a husband or your parents. You mother would have a much better chance at gaining custody.

Having said that, I agree with the above, call CPS asap and get that poor child out of that home. Most times, if they remove the child, and there is willing and capable family available to house that child, that's what will happen.

Good luck.
