What is the scoop on these 3 entities? Legit or corrupt?

I know Kazaa is probably as illegal as Napster, but how about Altnet and Brilliant Digital? Are they legitimate, futuristic companies exemplifying what downloading content legally from the Internet might become?

Or, to put it another way, I'm thinking of signing up with Altnet to try to sell my original music and videos on the Net legitimately and profitably. Good idea or bad?

I had not actually heard of Brilliant Digital or Altnet before. I am familiar with Kazaa. After looking further, I saw that at one time, Kazaa also installed Brilliant Digital / Altnet:

And Brilliant Digital / Altnet are in a partnership together:

They are all part of a P2P network - as well as Imesh, limesh, bearshare (a few others that come to mind). As far as being illegal - well if you share any software that you bought legitimately that is software piracy. I am not too certain about Brilliant Digital but on Kazaa and the other three P2P networks that I mentioned you cannot sell your music - you are sharing your music. Brilliant Digital's website was not all that great but if they allow you to sell your music, that would be what you are looking for. Itt does seem that they do allow licensing & that seems to be what you are looking for. The artists, record company, etc is supposed to get a portian of a CD sale every time but when you share your music there is no money. This is one of the main issues with the sharing.
