Hello,

I have a 1998 Civic Lx with auto trans. It does not start. The starter sounded bad so I had the shop test it. It was "throwing sparks all over the place" per the shop staff. I replaced the starter and have the same results, engine turns over, but does not start. Seems like there is no spark. CEL passes the test. As for the main relay and fuel pump tests, I'm less sure. I hear a rumbling that could be the fuel pump and then it goes off after 2-3 seconds. I do not hear anything that sounds like a main relay click unless that is when the fuel pump turns off. Any help on this would be appreciated. I'm going to continue reading through the Honda Civic Basic Ignition System Troubleshooting guide. Thanks

I have run through the ICM tests up through step 4 - both voltages checked OK.
What is meant by
5. Check the YEL/GRN wire between the ECM and the ICM.
6. Check the BLU wire between the tachometer and the ICM.

Since the CEL comes on and goes off normally, I would be inclined to replace the ignitor and coil:

I recommend replacing these problematic components every 120,000 miles or 10 years, whichever comes first.

I have started down the ICM tests. 3 & 4 pass with near battery voltage. Not sure what is meant by
5. Check the YEL/GRN wire between the ECM and the ICM.
6. Check the BLU wire between the tachometer and the ICM.
Can you clarify?
Thanks
