I have a phillips big screen TV and fell asleep today while watching, woke up and it was off but couldn't get it to come back on.All other components are working on same circuit. It's just dead, remote or on/off switch on set won't turn it on.It was raining today but no thunder woke me up so lightning isn't an issue and no blinking clocks, so power outtages aren't either. Can anyone help?

Try unplugging it for 5 minutes then trying to turn it on again.

Could it be it overheated? I know with the big screen tvs they get really hot at the back.

Just a thought, don't know if its right

It's possible; there should be space behind the TV. If it is wall mounted it shouldn't be surrounded by furniture. If it has room to breathe it shouldn't have overheated even if it had been on for a few hours.

Hello bodieangel

I was years ago a service manager by Philips.

You mention big screen : is that a LCD, plasma, projection, or big tube television?
Each type of television has it's pro's and it's con's, and it's specific faults.

But in general : this type of faults are either caused by a bad solder contact, a fault in the power supply system, or another component faillure.
It seldom is repaired by switching off for some time and back on again later.

Unless you have a service manual, a multimeter, and an oscilloscope, plus that you are a trained service technician, please just call a repairman or contact (or bring the television) to an authorised Philips service shop for repair.
There is simply nothing you can do yourself.
Sorry that I can not help you in any other way !
