I am currently being sued by Mann Bracken LLC and need help! After filing a respone from the court to them, I got a letter telling me to call to settle the debt. When I did I received nothing but conflicting information, rudness and accusations! Help... where do I go next?

What State? Is it your debt? Do you have a defense to the debt?

What did you file with the court? Did you ask for verification of the debt?

I'm in California. The original debt was with GE Money Bank (The Gap) and yes it was my debt. I defalted on some payments by a few months, got scared and called a company called "Credit Solutions"... was told they were talking with the companies... turns out they weren't. So I got served a summons a month ago.
To me it seems as though Mann Bracken is playing games with me. They send me a letter saying to call... I call. They try to settle at a rate I can't afford. They hang up on me. When I call back they tell me to stop playing games and they will see me in court. Then they call me... I return the call. It's getting rediculas and it's against the law! (as far as I can tell)
Any advise or hints as to where to look for information that could be useful?

First you tell MB that ALL correspondence be by mail. Second you file an Intent to Defend with the court where the suit was filed. Third you send a copy of that Intent to Defend letter to MB with a request for verification of the debt.
If you read some of the many other threads in this forum and the Bankruptcy & Debt or Credit forums, you will see your situation is fairly common and there are loads of instructions on what to do.

What constitues "verification"? I have two letters from GE stating that the original application is no longer available and that they have no signatures on file. I have demanded that GE remove the account from my name and all derogatories. Instead, they sent me to Mann Bracken who swears that they are a law firm. OK. Maybe owned by lawyers, but they are a collection agency threatening to take my house away, liens and all other threating measures. My ex-husband bought something and they are coming after me for it.
