I have an amana model plg8409w2 gas dryer. When I start it it will ignite. After a couple of minutes the flame goes out. A couple of minutes later the igniter will come on but the flame won't ignite. The dryer has worked flawlessly until now. It has been kept clean and all the wire connections are intact and secure. What is the problem?

I'm not very familiar with gas dryers but I assume they have a thermocoupling. This sounds like a defective thermocouple. It is a small prong like sensor that sits in the pilot light and tell the gas valve that the pilot light is burning. The thermocouple will be about 1/4" diameter, about 1 1/2" long, and will have a copper wire going to gas valve. That copper wire usually has a couple of coils in it because it's longer than necessary.

The ndryer does not have a thermocoupler if it has an igniter
