I currently have a customer that has encountered a stain issue with a new home. The contractor used a reputable semi-transparent stain on rounded, log cabin siding. After a few days we have noticed that the stain has dripped/ran on the bottom edge of the siding but only on the north side of the house. Any reasons? Is it the lack of sunshine on the north side of the house cause it to dry more slowly than the other sides? The contractor seems to think it is a problem with the lumber, but if that was the case, all sides should have this problem.

That type of log siding is general kiln dried so I doubt if it could run. In my area the north side of the house is the cooloest and wetest. Any chance they stined while the logs were damp or below the manufacturers recommended temp?

I sometimes wonder how the heck some person with one post to his name can down grade an answer I gave 2 years ago. I thought folks had to have a certain number of posts under their belt before they could rate us?
