OK... my central heat and air is on usually all of the time set at 78 degrees... so two days ago when it kicked on it started making this noise (a screeching noise) and it got louder so I turned it off. I went out to look into the unit (its on the ground) so see if anything was caught in the fan or anything and there was nothing. My kid said to give it a break so I have left it off for the last day and a half. This morning I turned it on and noticed that the fan is not moving and it the unit is getting hot in a matter of about 45 seconds. My house is only 5 years old... and the worst part is that I am a renter!! I don't want this to be my fault and really don't want to bother the land lord either... so is it something that can be fixed... and will it be costly?. please help!

It is not your fault. The motor needs to be replaced. Call your landlord he is responsible for the repair under most circumstances. Read your lease!

You need to have this unit looked at after you consult your landlord and advise them of the problem. The fact it heats up is not a good sign and means it needs professional attention NOW!
