All,
I removed the front cover from my gas Maytag Neptune MDG4000BWW and started the dryer. I can't see the igniter glow.

First 4 numbers of serial number are: 1079

Please help.

All,
I removed the igniter and checked for continuity with an Ohm meter. I get an open circuit with no resistance. I would assume that it should have some resistance.

I'm speculating that the igniter is bad and behaves like an open circuit.

Please confirm.

Thanks!

Just found a link to my question. Here: Appliantology Archive: Gas Dryer Diagnostics (http://fixitnow.com/appliantology/gasdryer.htm)
It looks like it should have continuity. Anyone else concur??

I would call maytag and give them the model and seral number they have people there today till 5pm pacific time it sounds like your heating element is out or maybe you have blowen fuse and yes your dryer can still work at times with a blowen fuse but not heat or you are not getting any prepane to it or what ever kind of gas you are using in that case your would need to call the gas company aobut it

Replaced defective Igniter with new igniter part# 4391996 today. I received it from repairclinic.com and the problem is solved. Reference initial post where the igniter measured open on the Ohm meter.
