I am still in possession of a vehicle that was co owned by my ex fiancé and me. Three years ago we he went into bankruptcy and named my car they tried to repo it a few times . I was not at home when they came. They stopped coming . A judgment was put against each of us for nine thousand dollars. Still no one came back to get the car. It was on the road up until two years ago. I would like to go to NY DMV and register it and put it back on the road. What is the chance that they will come and get the car once I do that?

If there is a lien against the vehicle, you can't sell it, right? Why not put it on the road and enjoy it? I don't see how registering the vehicle would tip them off, any more than just reviewing your credit report. Just curious: who filed bankruptcy and who signed (or co-signed) for the debt? I understand that it is jointly owned.
