I went to my GYN for a annual pap. I really felt uncomfortable because it was my first time. He told me I def. had a yeast infection and gave me meds to clear it up. He failed to tell me that I had a cyst on my bartholin gland. He just told me I had bad swelling around my pelvis area. I noticed that was my diagnosis on the paperwork I got back before I left. Sucks I know. I have changed my doctor since then. But
What is a cyst of a bartholin gland in lamons terms? Is it cancerous?

I actually had the same thing. And I had mine removed August of last year.
What it is is just a big cyst in your main gland that makes lubricants for women. Women only have two glands down there that do that... Well the gland due to it being made to stretch and pull (for babies) the gland can get very big and stretch to the size of the cyst and the cyst can keep on getting bigger. Mine actually (I know tis sounds gross) but mine actually got to the size of a softball and bigger.
They are not cancerous though. (although you may want to have it tested just better safe then sorry) SO no need to worry there. They are just very uncomfortable and sometimes painfull. I know with mine I battled with it for over 2 years. I kept on going to different doctors and different OBGYNs and no one wanted to help. Everyone just kept saying "take sit baths" (which is just sitting in hot water in the bath tub),take it easy, they gave me pain meds, etc. I even had to have a cathider(speeling sorry) But the thing that they putt in you when you can't pee? Well they put that into my cyst to let in drain! BLAH!! Anyway! It was a nighmare!
I finally found a doctor that sergically removed the cyst and the cyst sack and I have been fine since. It was a VERY long painfull recovery and I could not have sex for 4 weeks after the surgery but trust me if yours is as painfull as mine was 4 weeks is NOTHING compared to the 2 years I suffered in pain.
To put in non medical terms you are going to be fine... but it may just cause problems. I would recommend going to a couple of different doctors to see what they would recommend and see how bad it is... or if it doesn't bother you don't worry about it. I don't know where you live but I have names of MANY different doctors that I went to and loved. I also know the places that I would never send anyone!.
Anyway let me know if you have anymore questions. I don't mind to answer... GOOD LUCK!!
