Dear sir/madam,

I have a network printer (HP laserjet Color 5550) that is configured with IP address (192.168.1.xx) and connected to Domain server through switch.

Also, I have A PC desktop that is configured with IP address in different range (192.168.71.xx), No DNS or gateway were configured on this PC as it is in workgroup.

I tried to connect this PC to the network printer but it failed to print the test page

Can I get assistance on this issue.

Thank you
Huda

Try this out add another ip to your workgroup PC in the tcp ip properties . That is while adding another ip give the series which is in the range you have for the network printer and the default gateway .

Try installing the printer as a local printer. But when it prompts you for a port instead of LPT1 choose TCP/IP, then use the IP address of the printer.

The printer is in a completely different network ID and you have not configured the PC with a gateway address for routing. Therefore, the PC has no way to route to another network. The fact that the PC is in a workgroup is irrelevant.

As mentioned above, you can add a second IP address to the PC that is within the same network ID as the printer. However, this means that the addresses must be manually assigned. This also means that both networks must be physically connected to each other.

A more conventional way to do this, since there are two routers present, would be to add route tables to your routers that allows routing between your two networks. The printer and the PC's would also have to be configured with gateway addresses.
