Fdisk is a DOS partioning command to create and format drives in MS-DOS for FAT File System Drives
What are you trying to do besides wipe drive?

I am trying to change from windows X P v.3 dark edition (that only partially loaded when installed) back to windows X P pro. But the help program on this O. S. never loaded so no system restore. I've tried to download XP pro but V.3 is newer so pro won't install. I need to upgrade but can't find a download that will work.

You just need an XP CD and this process should format and install XP version you have on disk
Install Window XP from Scratch

Use your XP pro disc to reinstall, you should completely erase the partition when prompted with the option. This way that instlation won't show up on the Boot list... and you will not have any problems.
Make sure you back up all your important files first as this will completely "wipe" the drive, you will have to reformat then install, but its worth it
