We have a four month old daschund puppy. We are trying to potty train her using praise
And treats. Our dog is really smart, very energetic, but she will not let us hold her or
Pet her. She nips at us constantly. We have all things for her to chew, she loves her
Toys, but if we try to pet her she will try to bite! Is this just her puppy stage? We have
A pet pen she stays in during the day, she doesn't whine, she does really good in it.
When we take her out, (except for the first time in the morning) she runs around the
Yard (on her leash) getting into everything. She will not go, we bring her back in and
She goes in the pen. My daughter says that I should use the crate all the time, but I
Have to leave the house for 3 or 4 hours at a time, helping my elderly parents, she
Does not go when I am gone, but after I try taking her out, she will run around wild
Running in circles, and then after nothing I bring her back in... in her cage again.
I have a command for her to go. I take her to the same place each time, and I take
Her out every 2 hours. Please help!

That is the problem with smaller dogs often they are hyperactive and it may take two or three years to adjust to being a lapdog or being still to be petted and some never do.

To crate train her there is a sticky on this page. I don't know much about crate training
But I do know the people that I knew that crate trained the dog would get use to it enough that you could leave the crate door open for them to go in and out while you are home and close it when you go out. Other than leaving her outside until she goes (which I am sure you can't do when you are going to work) I am not sure what you can do to encourage her.
