I got my tongue pierced about four days ago. Some time between then and now I've noticed that I really can't taste anything I eat. Is this normal? Will I get my sense of taste back when the swelling goes down, or is it likely that the guy hit a nerve, and I'm just going to be like this for a while/ever? If I take the barbell out, and let it heal will my sense of taste come back?

I read online that sometimes the tongue ring makes the taste buds unaccessible. I couldn't tell you for sure if that's the case.

Trust me this is very normal it happen too me when I got my tongue pierced both times it will go away when the swelling goes down its just because you have something in your mouth that your body thinks doesn't belong there also don't panic if your tongue turns totally white it is also very normal and nothing too panic about just rinse with a mix of half mouth wash and half water find something that is alcohol free so it doesn't burn you should be fine in 6 weeks or so if you get too worried go back or call the place that pierced it for you most will gladly answer any question you have

Your mouthwash may have a factor in it as well. I used crest pro health and it made everything have no taste.
