I recently found out that there was a judgment placed against myself and my ex-husband back in 2001. In order to clear myself of this debt, I contacted the collection agency and was informed that I owed a substantial amount more then what was showing on my credit report.

In addition to this information I was told that regardless of the dissolution of the marriage 6 years ago, I would be held responsible for 100% of the debt to clear it. As it stands the original debt has grown from $460.00 to well over $1000.00 with attorney fees, court costs, and the 9% interest that's been generating since 2001.

Is this information true? Am I responsible for 100% of this debt?

If you are the co-signer and the debt was not addressed in your divorce (for example, the Court didn't order that he must pay it) you have no recourse but to pay it in full or try to get an adjusted amount which you can live with.

There is always the possibility of filing against your ex for "his share" of the debt.

(How did this slip past two divorce Attorneys - ?)
