I am running Microsoft Office 2000 in Windows XP. When I tried to open Outlook I received an error message directing me to run scanpst.exe. I tried to run it but received an error message. Research I did on the web indicates that apparently it does not work on pst files larger than 2gb. I'm sure my pst file is larger than that. Please provide any assistance you can. I need to get into my email tonight!

Thanks

What was the error message? 2 GB is the limit for pre-Outlook 2003 .PST files (The .pst file has a different format and folder size limit in Outlook 2007 and in Outlook 2003 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/830336)).

Also see How to use the Inbox Repair Tool to recover messages in Outlook 2000 that is installed with Corporate and Workgroup option (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/197316/) or How to use the Inbox Repair Tool to recover messages in Outlook 2000 that is installed with Internet Mail Only option (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/197315/) and Oversized PST and OST crop tool (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/296088/EN-US/).

Well, I totally agree with 'rahat654' and he is right about the working of Scanpst.exe (http://www.fixscanpstexe.com) that this inbuilt tool does not works on the PST files whose PST file size is larger than 2GB. So, if you want the quick results then going with any third party software is the only way out.
