Hi! I have put this in the "other health & wellness" section because I really want a broad range of solutions.
Here's the deal. After speaking with my mom this morning, she told me that my dad is in constant back pain.
Last year he had double knee replacement due to arthritis and has been doing great. Now he has arthristis in his back and is in constant pain. He has several doctors looking at him and throwing medicine at the problem. All of which are not helping and actually making him sick. They can't or won't even name the form of arthritis he has.
So, here is where I need help. I am looking for any and all information that may help my Dad. If it is "western" medicine, great. If it is holistic medicine, great. My parents are at a point that they will try anything.
I plan on researching myself. But I thought of all the different people we have on this site - from all over the world, so what better place to start! :)
Thanks!

No matter what he does he can and should take hylaronic acid it is safe with any other treatments, meds and supplements.
He can also try those glucosamine and chondroitin supplements in the grocery store health supplements aisle. Some people swear by them.
Also if he doesn't take meds for his heart or blood he could try taking calcium, magnesium and vitamin D. If he takes 600 mg calcium he needs to take 300 mg magnesium.
Also if he eats lots of *night shade vegetables or notices that he gets worse when he does eat them he should cut them out.

He has taken the glucsoamine or "joint juice" and it didn't work for him. He takes vitamins daily, including Omega 3, B6 and B12 and who knows what else. I know he eats peppers and tomatoes all the time (he grows them) and I am sure potatoes too.
He has to take medication for his blood pressure. There are some medications he can't take because of his kidney's.
What is hylaronic acid?
It is frustrating for him because he is very active. Of course the pain is worse in the morning because of laying still all night. My mom said he can't turn over with out yelling out in pain.
It is frustrating for all that love him because we know he is in pain all the time and that is a hard fact to face!

This best explains HA and you can buy it at Wal Mart.
Hyaluronic Acid HA for Skin and Joints (http://www.discount-vitamins-herbs.net/Hyaluronic-acid.htm)
I would only buy the one Wal Mart sells unless you can afford a high priced high quality brand

Thanks, I sent the information to my Dad.
He is ready to start trying accupuncture and massage therapy, etc.
My Mom said that he wakes up and is bent over like an old man because it hurts so bad to stand upright.
We just can't understand why the doctors aren't doing more than throwing pain medication at him. Medication that either makes him sick or so out of it he can't function.
FRUSTRATING!!

That is what the doctors do now is just keep loading people up with meds cause it has gotten to be a pharmaceutical money racket.
I don't want to get on my rant and over do it with all the links to show what I am saying though.
If he wants to go the acupuncture route then he might want to start with some Chinese and Native American supplements. Ashwagandha is good for arthritis.

My mom told me that she went to the dr. recently and told him that she didn't like to take pills - his response was "Then why did you come to the Dr.??"!!
He has to be careful about what he takes. He can not take any anti-inflammatories because of the effect they have on his kidneys. When I was researching holistic remedies/herbal supplements, a lot say they are anti-inflammatories. So, we are limited.
He has always been very good about taking vitamins and I think he will be open to trying new things. As long as there is no interactions with his current meds.

Yeah most things for arthritis is an anti inflammatory
The Hylaronic acid isn't though.
He may want to find something good for his liver too. Can he do a liver detox?
Vitamin B1 is important for the liver. The other stuff you said he is taking the B vitamins and the omega is good to and he should continue that.

Who knows - he has a lot of vitamins he takes every day. He always has, for as long as I can remember. He would get out a handfull every morning!
My mom told me about the omega 3 this morning. So he could already be taking the B1. Again, who knows! :)

Ask or tell him. I will look more up later.
I'd rather take the time to make sure what is best

Oh, I have been emailing him links since I got home from work about holistic and herbal treatments.
He probably thinks I am crazy.

You need to get one list of a good plan for him otherwise he may just feel totally lost in all the links.

Luckily, he and my Mom share an email address - he may get lost, but she won't. :)
