Hello,

I am planning to lay hardwood flooring on the second level of my condo. The material is all tongue and groove. I thought the subfloor was all fiberboard... I thought wrong. I just discovered sheetrock! Is this really sheetrock? Can I glue to this sheetrock? Do I have to remove all this sheetrock and lay down fiberboard in order to lay hardwood? Why is this sheetrock used? I figured it to be a sound barrier. Please help!!

Thank You!

Sheetrock should never be used as a floor or sub floor so someone really screwed up with your place. You need a sub floor, 3/4" plywood.

Ballenger is right on , either someone really screwed up or what you have isn't sheetrock but some type of sound barrier installed over a plywood subfloor. Either way to install toungue and groove flooring you really need a good plywood substrate I recommend 3/4 inch. Post a pic if you can. If I missed anything please post back and let me know. GOOD LUCK, AC
