I have put a new 3-speed, 4-wire pullchain switch in two of my Hunter ceiling fans. I am 95% sure I reattached the wires to the correct numbered positions -- black on L, green on 3, etc. The fastest speed works fine on both, but the other two speeds are the same on both -- the slowest speed. Would a wiring error on my part account for this?

Thanks for any advice you can offer

Well, I'm going to answer my own question after a call to Hunter. I had picked up a generic 3-position replacement from Home Depot. Hunter said such generics will only produce two speeds with Hunter fans and that I would have to order a replacement, which I did. Now I know.

Wiring error OR the wrong replacement switch. Check with Hunter Fan (http://www.hunterfan.com)

How much did Hunter charge for the switch... how old was the fan?
