Does copper tubing used for plumbing (water lines) have antibacterial properties?

Hi Alice:

Copper metal and therefore copper tubing does indeed have "inherent antibacterial properties"... it is used in many applications for exactly that reason.

Click on these links below for more information:

PR 543 Antibacterial properties of copper and brass combat toxic E-coli 0157 bacteria (http://www.cda.org.uk/news/Press%20Releases/PR543.htm)

Copper properties and uses. Introduction. (http://resources.schoolscience.co.uk/CDA/14-16/chemistry/copch0pg5.html)

It is the anti-bacterial nature of copper that makes it a great material for use as a water supply. The newer thermoplastic pipe manufacturers (pex pipes) are working to create antibacterial linings to mimic the properties of copper.

Let us know if need anything else...
