When we turn on our AC, everything is fine for about 5 minutes and then the blower motor will stop. After about 10 minutes, it will come back on and then go out again. The thermostat is working properly because the condenser motor is working while the blower motor does not. We have had this symptom all summer. Could it be the motor is overheating and shuts off to protect itself and then turns back on until it heat up again. If it is overheating, could it be due to dirt and can the motor be cleaned with some type of electrical motor cleaning spray?

First try to replace the motor run capacitor with the correct new one. It is located next to the inside blower motor or attached to the blower housing. It is usually fed by two wires. The type and size will be on the old capacitor.

If that fails to cure the problem you might have to buy a new motor and a new capacitor for new motor. Always use a capacitor that is recommended by the motor manufacturer.

To see if the motor is over heating. When it stops blowing turn power off to the system remove the blower door put your hand on the motor if its hot (all motors run warm), Its over heating due to a bad capacitor or motor. If its not hot it may be a bad control circuit= Thermostat or blower relay.
