That sounds like one of the most tangled messes I've ever heard.

You need an attorney, no way you can get to the bottom of all of this on your own.

Go to handleonthelaw.com if you need a referral.

Sounds like you need to talk with the original owners and have ALL receipts. Is the trailer still in the original owners name? If they want to claim it was stolen then that would most definitely make them accessories to ''the crime".
Whose name is on the title?

well you can't sell a trailer you don't own, so if you sold the trailer to someone and did not have a clear title to it, this is a problem,

this is not how you originally explained this, you made it sound like you went to the original owners and ha them re-sale it.

There are several issues first there is no written loan agreements ?
who has the title for the original trailer ? YOu need an attorney and you need everything in writing or it will be word against word.
What proof do you even have that you bought and did not steal it?
But if you sold you, you are obligated to pay it off to the original owner even if you don't get paid by the person you sold it to. So as long as you pay the trailer off you are OK.

I doubt it will be grand theft, but under what you posted you may be charged with fraud, the person you sold it to may have you charged and sue you for any and all money they paid you, since you did not have a legal right to sell them the trailer. And of course the original owner may sue you for the value of the trialer.

Yep I agree with Fr_Chuck you are going to have to repay the new owner or get the first owner to transfer it over to them and have the first owner paid up if it is still in first owner name. I don't think it is grand theft either but you do need to untangle the whole thing asap.

this is not how you orginally explained this, you made it sound like you went to the orginal owners and ha them re-sale it.

FrChuck said it all and well.

I don't think posting another site which also answers questions, refers clients to Attorneys, is allowed - takes business away from the Attorneys who sponsor this board, pay the freight (so to speak) here.

EDIT: This is a pay referral service - Attorneys pay to have their names listed. No guarantee the Attorney is good, bad or indifferent, just that he/she is willing to pay for the publicity and referral.
