We're having our sewer pipes outside of our house redone by our town. (not sure if that has bearing or not, but here goes).

They have us hooked up to a hydrant via some garden hose that's hooked on to our outside tap. Water in the house is currently shut off. (so we're getting our water through that tap, if this makes sense)

Ever since they've started the kitchen sink "gurgles" from time to time. Last night it started to plug up, and now today when I flushed my 2nd floor (kitchen is on main) toilet, I have raw sewage in my kitchen sink. :eek:

Plumbers are all busy in town today and can't come over. We're sitting here with poo in the sink and no idea what to do to make it go away. (We're trying to plunge it but it's not working well.)

Help!

The first thingI would do is locate the house cleanout located next to the foundation usually on the street side. Open it up and check to see if it's full ow water. If it is then the city has your sewer pipes blocked off. If this is simply a local problem within the house I would rent a sewer machine and check in the basement for a cleanout located on the kitchen drain and snake the line from there. If you can't locate a cleanout you'll have to go down the kitchen roof vent. Put out enough cable to reach the base and 20 feet more.

Call your Town Contractor. They should respond ASAP.

The clog could be yours and just a coincidence but most likely the city is causing your problem, call the water and sewer department immediately. They have caused your home to become uninhabitable and must remedy it immediately. I would not bother trying to fit anything on your own considering the circumstances.

Ballengerb1: We once had City crew cleaning main City Sewer about 100' up the street via manhole sewer access. City contractor used high pressure machine mounted on Ford 6500 utility truck. The pressure cleaner was powered by this enormous compressor. The hose of the power jet had high pressure water nozzle at its end. Somehow, the tip of the nozzle found its way into my customer's house, entered master bathroom via toilet bowl and destroyed the bathroom as this high pressure nozzle was twisting and swinging back and forth, up and down inside the bathroom. It took down tile, plaster, cut holes in cabinets and destroyed shower enclosure. Complete disaster. People were lucky nobody was inside the bath or they could be seriously injured.

Milo, I am not trying to put down the city worker but your story and my experiences seem to agree. When the city is replacing your sewert and you develop sewer problems it's a no brainer. My friend would say Ray Charles could see this one at mid night.

Milo, I think I saw this on a reality TV show called Bathrooms gone wild!! right along with the episode about the toilet that exploded when the OP tossed his cigarette butt in it while he was on the throne. This is what they called A uplifting experience Cheers, Tom
