View Full Version : Time requirement for Naturalization
Hi, I have a question on Naturalization. I want to apply for citizenship and I got the Green card in the 2nd week of November in 2003. I have been in continuous residence since then. Can I apply for citizenship 90 days before the 5 years as Permanent Resident requirement? Thanks!

If you obtained your green card through employment, or your family member applied for you, you can submit N-400 90 days before you reach the 5 years term.
If you obtained your green card through marriage and you're still married with the same spouse, you are eligible to submit N-400 90 days before you reach the 3 years term.

To apply for naturalization, the form is N-400. You can download the form and instructions from USCIS Home Page (http://www.uscis.gov)
If your daughter is younger than 16 by the date you become naturalized, she does not need to file N-400 as she will automatically obtain citizenship as derivative beneficiary, but she must file the form N-600 to obtain Certificate of Naturalization.

Lawawadee,
Thanks for answering my question. Can I file both N-400 for myself, and N-600 for my daughter at the same time, or do I need to wait until I get citizenship to file N-600 for my daughter? Thanks!

You can't file both concurrently. You would need a notarized copy of your Certificate of Citizenship as supported document for your daughter's application. So do one at a time...
Good luck...
