I am very interested in buying a backhoe. I want to have a small side business but don't know how to get started and what kind of insurance I need.

Hi, teamko!
You will at least need liability insurance as well as insurance for the backhoe. Depending on where you are going to be operating this kind of business, there may even be a license and permits needed to operate one. If in the United States, the city or county officials where you will be wanting to work would be able to tell you about all of the things that you will need to have.

There are differnet types of bonds, like a performance bond you would get if you are doing work for some contractors to insure your completion of the job. There is bonding to cover your handling of others money.
You will want liablity insurance to cover any damage you may due, like hitting a gas main and costing a few hundred thousand in damages real easy, normally you will need a business license,

Thank you Fr_Chuck! To contact a bonding agent, you could look in the Yellow Pages of the local phone book.
