In what ways might the european encounter with the Americas be seen as a disaster or tragedy. And in what ways might it be seen as an inevitable development in the history of hummanity with long-run positive results?

Which teacher assigned this?
For one thing it introduced a whole new set of diseases to N & S Am.
Humans are curious and that makes them explorers. They also tend to search for wealth (of many varieties) so exploration serves many needs.

Clearly it was inevidible and had both positive and negative results . I think the positives outweigh the negatives but that is based on my reading of the history . I'm sure the teacher wants you to opine based on your own observations.
