I am trying to disconnet my hot water heater. There is a copper to pvc interface (connection) with a copper band around the end of the pvc. How do I disconnect this joint?

Hey Artram:
If this is what I suspect it is... PEX type thermoplastic piping/clamp/fittings then you will need to cut the copper pipe about 6 inches from the connection and work with the copper pipe only. Otherwise you will need to find the correct PEX tubing/fittings/tools to work with and that will certainly take some time.
Like Tom asked, can you post a picture?
Look at the picture below... if copper band around pipe looks like copper band below then you have a pex piping with white thermoplastic piping... like I said.. work with the copper pipe here!
